Chinese manufacturers commonly offer standard flat washers, wide-pattern washers, square washers, and thick heavy-duty versions. Standard washers under ISO 7089 suit general bolted joints; ISO 7093-1 covers larger outside diameters that spread load across softer materials. Wide washers are useful on timber panels or thin sheet, where a small washer may pull through. Square types can provide a broad bearing face in framing and machinery.
Materials typically include carbon steel, stainless steel, and brass, with finishes such as zinc plating or plain passivation. The World Steel Association’s World Steel in Figures 2025 reports 2024 crude steel production of about 1,005 million tonnes in China, out of roughly 1,883 million tonnes worldwide. That signals a large steel-making base, not uniform washer quality. Ask suppliers for material certificates, dimensional inspection records, and coating-thickness results. Small details matter.
Match washer dimensions to the bolt and joint, not just the product name. Confirm inner diameter, outer diameter, thickness, hardness, and corrosion needs on the drawing. Some catalogs group spring washers with flat washers, but they serve different functions.
One caveat: a thicker washer is not automatically stronger; fit and material matter too. Sampling parts before a production order can expose burrs, uneven plating, or inconsistent thickness—issues that photographs may miss.
